This year’s theme is Rome: Paul and the Underground Church. Children will be divided into Roman families. Each day children will experience the Gospel in real and exciting ways. They will visit Paul, who is under house arrest who will be whisked away to meet with first century Christ-followers in an underground church. Games of the era will be played and food of the region eaten. Children will experience the Gospel message of Romans via daily dramas involving Roman senators, soldiers, architects and slaves. Marketplace shops will be open for apprentices to make toys, jewelry, and wreaths and participate in many other activities enabling them to learn what it was like to be one of the first Christians.
Registration is open to all children entering kindergarten through 5th grade in the fall of 2009. We will be hosting Family Day on Friday July 24th and will need extra people on hand to speak to and welcome the adults who will experience VBS with their
children that day.
Because VBS is a ministry of our church, we need lots of volunteer help and donations. Below is a summary of people and things we need to make this a truly authentic and meaningful event for the children that God places into our hands for that one week. Work days will be scheduled in June to transform the Fellowship Hall into the city of Rome. You don’t have to be volunteering for VBS to help on these days. We will also schedule staff orientation for some time in June.
If you would like to make a donation, we are accepting HEB gift cards which we can use to purchase supplies we need for the week. You may also check the bulletin board in the fellowship hall for a list of materials we need.
Family Day: Friday, July 24th is Family Day. All children are encouraged to come and bring their families along with any older or younger siblings and join them while they experience Rome. The children will be very eager to show their parents and families what they have learned and experienced during the week.
VBS Sunday: Sunday, July 26th is VBS Sunday. All children and their families are invited to worship with us at 11:00 am on that day. During that worship service, the children will parade their banners, sing, and present some of the things that have learned about and made during the week.
Mission Project: Central to learning about God's love is actively sharing that love. We want to teach the children about being in service to others. We have chosen Nothing But Nets as our mission project for this year. This is a campaign to provide bed nets to in risk areas to help protect people from deadly diseases such as malaria. We suggest thatyou find small jobs at home that your children can do in order to earn money to give towards this project.
